Oyez, Oyez, Oyez!

On Saturday the 14th September, Newton Abbot hosted members of the Ancient and Honourable Guild Of Town Criers to this year’s Town Crier’s Competition.

11 Crier's took part in the competition, which was held in front of St Leonard's Clock Tower throughout the day.. It was a very colourful (and somewhat noisy!) event with two competing cries - the 'Home Cry' took part in the morning where the Criers promoted the town he or she represents and an afternoon cry which this year related to 'Horses'.

All winners received a trophy, a certificate and also a monetary prize which was kindly donated by Lord of the Borough Keith Stokes Smith. Oswestry Town Council can officially announce that our very own Town Crier, Mr Phillip Brown, was awarded a trophy for Best Dressed Crier !! Congratulations also go to Alex Jamieson, expert seamstress, who has a fantastic business within Oswestry Indoor Market and who made the Town Crier outfit from scratch. Well done both!
