Owestry Town Council Update

Oswestry Town Council held its third virtual Council meeting on Wednesday 22nd July 2020 with elected members considering a range of matters.

Councillor Steve Davenport, Shropshire Councils Portfolio Holder for Highways and Transport attended to provide an update on various initiatives promoting sustainable transport in the County. Councillor Davenport took a number of questions from elected members and from members of the public.

Three notices of motions were discussed and debated with Council agreeing to investigate options for securing additional allotment land. They also agreed to consider a proposal to investigate additional staffing through the Government's Kickstart programme.

Council concluded that they could not provide emergency funding to the Memorial Hall Trust following a request for assistance due to the impact of the pandemic on income but wish to meet with the trustees to discuss the future of the building.

Councillors heard how the towns markets were performing following the relaxation of the lockdown regulations and received updates from the Finance Officer on car parking and on the Councils financial position.
