Free Car Parking and Grants

At its meeting of the Finance and General Purposes Committee (24th of March) Oswestry Town Council agreed to provide free car parking in all of its car parks from Monday 12th of April to Sunday 25th of April.

This decision means that visitors to Oswestry will benefit from free car parking as Shropshire Council have also agreed not to charge during these dates.

The initiative is aimed at providing a boost to local businesses and encouraging people to choose Oswestry as their destination for shopping and visiting.

The Committee also agreed to provide grants to three organisations.

A grant of £1,000 was awarded to the Marches School to establish the "Marches Enterprise" a student business programme aimed at giving young people of Oswestry an opportunity to participate in entrepreneurial activity.

A grant of £275 to help "Parkinsons in the Marches" to run a one day event in Oswestry for Parkinson sufferers and health professionals.

Financial support of £3,000 was given to U&I Counselling toward the cost of running their services.

Councillors noted the difference that all three grants could make and unanimously supported the awards.
