Mayor’s Visit to Concert at Porthywaen

The Mayor, Councillor John Price and the Mayoress, Joyce Barrow had the privilege of attending a superb evening of Silver Brass Band music, to a packed house at Porthywaen Village Hall.

They heard the three sections of band, from beginners up to the senior band. The Chairman of the choir, Victoria Graham, made them very welcome and talked through the history of the band. It's amazing, that such an organisation, provides instruments, and tuition, free of charge to all age groups, though it is totally reliant on donations and fundraising. There was also a presentation from Councillor Peter Cherrington to Eileen Metcalfe on her long service as a volunteer for the Oswestry Youth Music Festival. The choir recently, had success in both Oswestry Youth Music Festival and Chester Music Festival coming home with two trophies for first place. It was clear to see the dedication of everyone involved and the Mayor and Mayoress wish them continued success.
