It dates back to the Queen's Silver Jubilee celebrations of 1977, it now well established in the County Music Calendar and entries are attracted from Shropshire, Cheshire, Wrexham and North and Mid Wales. Normally held in March of each year the Festival includes a programme of individual, group and school opportunities linked with celebrity concerts. Trophies, certificates and prizes are awarded to competitors and past overall winners of the Festival have gone on to successful professional musical careers.

Oswestry Youth Music Festival 2022

Jakob Fradley Overall Winner of the Town Council Cup

This year's Festival has been another huge success with a record number of entries involving approximately 1000 young people performing in 81 classes over 5 days.

We have seen and heard a wealth of talent from young musicians not only from Oswestry, but from surrounding towns and counties, as well as numerous entries from Wales. It was fantastic to welcome so many new faces, as well as seeing young people coming back year after year as they grow in age, ability and confidence.

Although the Festival is a competition, our main aim is to make it as relaxed and friendly as possible so that our young performers can feel at ease and enjoy the experience. Research has proved that music enhances a young person's development in so many ways including socially and academically, as well as improving coordination, self-discipline and listening skills, and there are also major benefits to mental health.

A special thank you to Sue Turner and all the volunteers who helped out over the 5 day music festival.
