Logo Competition 2020

Welcome to the syllabus for the Oswestry Youth Music Festival 2019. I am delighted to report that the number of entries continues to rise year on year, so we are looking forward to yet another exciting festival in 2020. All the existing classes remain, and in addition there is one new class this year:

Class 39a Drum Kit Solo with backing track (21 & under)

Also, we are reviving the following class as there seems to be a resurgence of youth rock in the area - hopefully this will be an exciting revival:

Class 44 Rock Bands (18 & under)

We are currently seeking trophies for these two classes, so if you know any individuals or businesses who would like to donate one, please let us know.

Fees for solo and ensemble classes remain unchanged at £6 and £12 respectively, but I am pleased to report that there is a reduction in the duet fee from £12 to £8. Hopefully this will encourage more young duettists to take part. Accompanists' fees also remain unchanged at £5. However, if there are any late requests for accompanists, or if a copy of music for the accompanist is not sent in with the entry form by the closing date of 17th January, the accompanist's fee will be £10.

The annual Logo competition will take place again this year, so please see the attached sheet for details.

After the success of trialling the Hermon Chapel as a venue last year, we shall now be moving all the solo instrumental classes there apart from piano. The acoustics are excellent, and as it is a smaller venue than the Methodist Church it is more user friendly for performers and audiences in the smaller classes. It is also much warmer!

When entering a choir, Musical Theatre Ensemble or instrumental ensemble class, please remember that we are unable to offer warm up or changing facilities. However, warm up facilities are available for solo and duet classes in all venues.

I would like to take this opportunity to issue a reminder about photographs and videos. It is a very strict regulation of the British and International Festivals Federation that only official photography is allowed, and no personal photos or videos are permitted under any circumstances. This is to protect the welfare of all participants, particularly those in a vulnerable situation. Where the official photographer is used, parental permission is always requested beforehand. A copy of our Safeguarding Policy is available on request.

If you are a trophy winner from 2019, could you please remember to return your trophy to The Guildhall no later than Tuesday31st December 2019 so that they can be prepared in good time for next year.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Keep an eye on our Facebook page (Oswestry Youth Music Festival) where there are frequent news updates.

Just a final reminder that the closing date for entries is Friday 17th January. All entries should be sent direct to the Guildhall by no later than 1 pm on that day.

I look forward to receiving your entries and seeing you at the 2020 Festival.
