Welcome to the new syllabus for 2019 which is bigger than ever, due to ever increasing numbers of performers taking part, and new exhibition classes. We were delighted to keep going through all the snow last year, and not one class was cancelled. Let's hope that the weather is a little more kind to us in 2019.
The extra day in 2018 proved to be very useful, so once again the Festival will start on a Wednesday. The dates will be Wednesday 27th February to Sunday 3rd March. The two exhibition classes from last year are now embedded into the programme (Organ Solo and Baroque Piano Solo) and there are 3 new exhibition classes: French Chanson, Counter Tenor and Folk Artist. If these classes prove to be popular, then they will be fully incorporated into the syllabus in 2020. Hopefully there will be a greater uptake in the Musical Theatre Ensemble Classes - the groups who took part last year were most enjoyable. The committee monitors the popularity of classes each year and if certain classes are very undersubscribed for three successive years, it is likely that they will disappear from the syllabus.
The adjudicators for 2019 will be John Powell, Nadia Hinson and Christine Thompson, with Andrew Padmore adjudicating our Finals Concert on the Sunday.
Please remember to submit your entries in good time as late entries cannot be accepted under any circumstances. The closing date is Friday 18th January 2019 and all entries should arrive at the Guildhall no later than 1 pm on that day. The timetable is drawn up on Friday evening and the programme is typed up over the weekend, so there really is no margin for late entries. A checklist has been added to the entry form so please check carefully that you have included the correct fees and copies of any music required for the official accompanist. All classes have a set time limit for performances so do please check the length of your pieces carefully as adjudicators are bound by Federation rules and cannot award placings to those performers who go over the limit. Times are always clearly stated for each class in the syllabus.
If you would like to act as a volunteer at the festival, or join the festival committee, we would love to hear from you. Please contact the Guildhall 01691 680222 or myself (details below). The Festival's Facebook page can be found under Oswestry Youth Music Festival and frequent updates are posted there, along with answers to queries.
We look forward to receiving your entries.
