Visiting the Archives

Visits are by appointment only

Appointments can be made during the following times:

Mon, Tues Thurs 9.30-12.45 and 2.15-4.30

Fri 9.30-12.45 and 2.15-3.45

The archives are closed on Wednesdays and public holidays.

Before making an appointment, you are advised to consult the catalogue to order documents.

The Town Council Archivist is available one morning a week (Mondays).

The archive is supervised by Archivist’s Assistant, Joanne Williams, during other opening times.

Where to Find Us

Oswestry Town Council is located in the Guildhall on Bailey Head in Oswestry. (A map is available on the ‘contact us’ page).

Parking: There is no private parking for the archives. A pay and display car park is situated next to the Guildhall, which has designated disabled parking spaces.

Travelling by bus: Oswestry bus station is located in Oswald Road, a five minute walk to the Guildhall.

Travelling by train: The nearest train station to Oswestry is located at Gobowen. The no. 53 bus frequently runs from Gobowen to Oswestry bus station.

Facilities

There is disabled access to the Guildhall at the side entrance. Toilets, including a disabled facility, are located on the ground floor in the reception area.

The Archives are not open during lunch times. There are no refreshment facilities at the Guildhall. However, there are many cafes and restaurants a short distance away in the town.
