Thank You David Lloyd
The Town Mayor Councillor Paul Milner made a presentation at the Civic Dinner on behalf of the Town Council to record appreciation for the support and friendship that david has shown to the town of Oswestry during that period.
David Lloyd is pictured with his son Mark, who is the Chief Executive of the Local Government Association.
The Mayor in making the award admitted that "David has not been a Town Councillor but has been part of the life of this Council in so many ways since it was formed back in 1974.
This gentleman has given over 50 years of service to local government and has been Mayor of the old Oswestry Borough Council, a Chairman of Shropshire Health Authority, and indeed a Conservative candidate for both the European and the UK Parliaments as well as being awarded an MBE. He has also been a Member of Shropshire Council also serving as its Speaker.
David Lloyd is without doubt one of the most familiar faces of local politics in this area. David has a fascinating background founded in journalism and farming, and has successfully, through his many local government roles, fought many causes on behalf of this town.
Next month sadly he will stand down as a Shropshire Councillor but it is right and proper this evening that we pay tribute to his long and dedicated service to the local community in Oswestry, and beyond, and place on record our thanks for his wise counsel, commitment and passion for Oswestry and his unstinting support over many years to this Town Council."
