Mayor's Christmas Message
As someone born and bred in Oswestry I have been so proud to be Mayor of my home town this year.
Already I have attended many Christmas events and enjoyed the friendship and excitement that this time of year can bring. I am also aware that many people struggle over this period and I will be making every effort to visit and help support those that find Christmas a stressful and lonely time.
I cannot believe how fast the year has gone by but looking back in my diary at some of the events and people that I have met since May has made me realise just how lucky we are to live in a community such as Oswestry. I have been so fortunate to meet so many people, share in so many events and support many local organisations.
There have been many highlights that must include Oswestry Community Games, the Food Festival, Oswestry Show, the Rotary Christmas Parade, our own Bonfire & Fireworks Evening and Oswestry Christmas Live. Seeing our community, and our visitors, come out to support these events demonstrates how lucky we are to live in such a wonderful area and have so many people around us who are prepared to work on behalf of the town.
Being Mayor has emphasized to me just how much Oswestry cares about its local residents. Many people work under the radar to improve the quality of life for those less fortunate and this Christmas I am looking forward to attending a few events where it will be possible to say thank you to such community champions for the work that they do throughout the year in helping others.
Throughout my year as Mayor I have campaigned for the retention of local health services. I would like to thank the many people that have signed petitions and the local Parish and Town Councils that have offered their support. Hopefully in 2017 we will hear the news that our campaigns have been successful and that proper funding is found to give the whole county the health services that it needs and deserves.
I have had some wonderful experiences as Mayor since May and I thank everyone that has made the Mayoress and myself so welcome. I look forward for the rest of my term to help, support, and promote all aspects of Oswestry life.
On behalf of the Mayoress and all my colleagues at Oswestry Town Council, can I wish everyone a very happy Christmas and a peaceful and healthy New Year.
