Investing in Youth

Oswestry Town Council will this year have the youngest Mayoress in the long history of the Council.   Amber Hunt has been appointed by her father, Vince, to be his Mayoress during his term of Office.

Amber is a pupil at the Marches School, Oswestry and her Head teacher Sarah Longville attended the Mayor Making Ceremony at the Guildhall this week.

The Mayor confirmed that civic duties will be restricted to weekends and school holidays with school always coming first. In addition he said

"I work extensively with local schools in the Oswestry area and my association with both the Marches and Woodside Schools is well known but I do feel by giving a young person a chance to fulfil this important and high profile role then we offer support and encourage to our young people to be potential community champions of the future. What I would like to do during the year is to look at setting up a youth forum so that, together with our young people, we can explore their views about the town and its future and also what youth services should be delivered in future, and by who."
