Welcome to the syllabus for the Oswestry Youth Music Festival 2018. As the number of participants and classes continues to rise, we are looking forward to an even bigger Festival with 6 new classes. Consequently, we are adding an extra day, so the first classes will be on Wednesday 28th February, starting in the afternoon.
The new classes are as follows:
Class 36a Drum Kit Solo with backing track (15 & under)
Class 75 Musical Theatre Ensemble (12 & under)
Class 76 Musical Theatre Ensemble (15 & under)
Class 76 Musical Theatre Ensemble (21 & under)
Class Ex 1 Organ Exhibition Class for anyone aged 21 & under
Class Ex 2 Piano Solo Baroque Exhibition Class for anyone aged 21 & under
In addition, we have now separated out classes 66, 67 and 68 (Oratorio, Opera and Gilbert & Sullivan) so they will now be adjudicated separately. More details can be found in the syllabus. We have had kind offers of new trophies for all the new fixed classes, and thanks go to all those who have donated. We just need 2 more trophies for the following classes:
Class 39 Instrumental Duet 18 & under
Class 66 Oratorio 21 & under
If anyone is willing to donate one (either an individual or a business) please do get in touch.
Musical Theatre Ensemble classes are asked to arrive already in costume as we cannot guarantee changing facilities, and space is limited. Also, all choir classes are politely requested to refrain from arriving more than 15 minutes before their class is due to perform. This is to avoid delays and congestion in the church.
Fees remain the same as last year i.e. £6 for individual classes, and £12 for duets and ensembles. Fees for an official accompanist also remain the same at £5.
Once again we are running our Logo Competition.
we are delighted to report that our Ruby Anniversary Concert during the 2017 Festival raised over £1000 for CLIC Sargent. We had a fantastic evening being entertained by previous winners and it was a complete sell out. It was good to welcome them back to hear their amazing talent, and to see how many have gone on to be professional musicians. Thank you to everyone who supported us that night. Thank you also to Oswestry Town Council for facilitating the event, and also for their continued support for the Festival every year.
We are currently looking for new volunteers to join the Festival Committee. We meet about 4 times a year at the Guildhall, and new members would be very welcome. Please contact me if you would like to join (contact details at the end of this letter). In addition, we are always looking for volunteers to help during the Festival itself. Duties involve stewarding, clerking or announcing so please contact David Clough at Oswestry Town Council.
