Heart of England in Bloom – Judges Comments - 2017

Oswestry in Bloom Large Town Gold Award

Judges: Mark Wiltshire, David & Lesley Pritchard

The setting of The British Ironwork Centre was chosen this year for our welcome meeting and what a venue to hold it at!!! A very informative and professional presentation set the scene for the tour before us. The spectacular bedding displays in Cae Glas Park, were a joy to see, what an improvement, some excellent hanging baskets throughout the tour and the well maintained Cemetery all give a colourful lift to the town. The introduction of an apprentice in the park is very encouraging and shows the long term commitment in progressing forward. Central Car Park and Old Chapel Court were looking at their very best along. The work by the volunteers in Henley Woods is reaping rewards with many new species of animals in evidence. Civic pride is here in abundance the spotless streets and clean street furniture gives vibrancy to the town.

Areas of Achievement:

Special Award for Cae Glas Park

Waterford Vase Mike Garwood Memorial Trophy 2017 for the Best Floral Display Sponsored by Salop Leisure Cae Glas Park- Oswestry The view when you enter the park through the main entrance is simply breath taking with seasonal bedding planted and maintained to perfection. The hot vibrant colours were quite simply 'sensational'. Geraniums, Marigolds, Begonias and Petunias were all at their very best. This was an absolutely stunning display of summer bedding plants and amazing colours. The grass was completely free of any weed and looked immaculate. The borders were completely weed free and the grass edges were cut correctly. The relationship with the new grounds maintenance contractor is obviously working well and the results are there for all to see. The maintenance team have excelled themselves this year in achieving such a high standard of work and should be very proud. Whilst judging the park numerous members of the public commented how much they appreciate the work of the maintenance team - Cae Glas Park really is the jewel in Oswestry's crown.
