Markets
The Council provides all retail markets for the town. This includes the Powis Hall indoor market open every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday found near the Bailey Head, adjacent to the Guild Hall.
The major tourism feature of the town is the Wednesday outdoor market held in front of the Powys Market Hall. This is arguably the largest street market in Shropshire and attracts visitors from far and wide.
A Saturday Outdoor Market is also operated on the Bailey Head.

Well Done
Well done to Siop Cwlwm based in Oswestry Indoor Market who won the Regional Local Business Accelerator competition in the Advertizer in January. They set up a business over a year ago selling a number of Welsh language books, cards, gifts and household items. The competition, backed by the Prime Minister provides the winners with a substantial allocation of free advertising in the Tizer as well as free business mentoring. This may even be from Deborah Meaden from the Dragons Den if they are really lucky! This is a fantastic achievement. Well done to Lowri and Linda who have worked hard to put their business and Oswestry Market on the local map.
Winner of Best Dressed Christmas Window Competition 2011 Announced

The Oswestry Chamber of Commerce are delighted to announce the winner of the inaugural ‘best dressed Christmas window’ competition for 2011. The winner is Bobalot, a market stall which specialises in hand-made crafts, pictures and photographs and can be found on the ground floor of Powis Hall market. The Chamber had invited businesses to nominate their premises for this award and the winning entry was chosen by Mrs Cynthia Hawksley, Mayor of Oswestry Town Council. Mrs Hawksley said “It was good to see that so many shops and businesses have made a special effort in dressing their windows for Christmas as it really helps to make the town look attractive. It was difficult to choose the winning entry as the standard was so high, but the Bobalot stall in the market really stood out”. Mrs Louise Hudson, Treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce said “The Chamber are delighted to see that so many businesses have made a real effort to make their premises look particularly attractive at this important time of the year. We hope that more shops will enter next year and that the competition is even stronger”. Gail Goodall from Bobalot said “We’re delighted to win this competition and would like to thank the Chamber for organising this event. I hope that it encourages more people to visit the market hall in 2012”.
